Technology as a competitive advantage, from the IT org to the factory floor.
I build the IT, security, and AI organizations that let companies scale — and I have run the business itself: 175 people across manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and facilities as SVP of Operations and CIO at Velo3D. Today I run a production agentic AI program spanning four business functions at Lightmatter.
I learn the business, then build the org it needs.
Aaron Katske is a technology executive with two decades of experience turning IT and security functions into strategic business assets. He builds and scales the systems, teams, and controls that fast-moving companies run on — and he does it in the environments where the margin for error is thinnest: venture-backed hardware startups, hypergrowth manufacturers, and companies preparing for audit, certification, and IPO.
What sets him apart is range. Most technology leaders never leave the IT org. Aaron has run operations end to end — at Velo3D the CEO handed him Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Logistics, NPI, and Facilities alongside IT and security: 175 people across eight departments, roughly 70% of the company and about $60M in combined budget. He has closed over $100M in real estate transactions and delivered $10M of build-outs in under two years, both under budget; rebuilt infrastructure from coin-flip uptime to 99.9%; taken a checkbox-compliance security posture to a clean full-scope ISO 27001:2022 audit with zero non-conformities; and designed pre- and post-IPO controls that cleared audit with zero material weaknesses.
He is also running a production agentic AI program, scaling AI to hundreds of users while bringing tool sprawl under formal risk treatment, and using AI agents to bend the IT staffing curve rather than adding headcount to it. The ISO 27001 program he runs is positioned to extend toward ISO/IEC 42001 (AI management systems) and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework as the governance program matures.
He leads by learning the business first. Before technology, he trained as a chef and earned a degree from the California Culinary Academy — where he learned to run a line under pressure, a discipline that still shapes how he runs an operation. He has grown through repeated promotions by seeing what needed to be done and doing it.

Eight functions I was handed broken, or empty, and rebuilt.
Two AI programs: one governs the company, one runs it
Built Lightmatter's corporate AI policy and enablement program — scaling AI to hundreds of users under formal risk treatment — and a second, agentic service platform spanning IT, Facilities, Marketing, and People: one front door for the whole company, with AI agents resolving up to half of requests unaided.

Handed 70% of the company — and it ran
When the CEO recognized his operational strength, Aaron took over the entire operations organization — 175 people across manufacturing, quality, supply chain, logistics, NPI, and IT — and drove the strategy across all of it.

From 7% to 97% compliant in six months
Stood up a defense-grade security and compliance program that unlocked the DoD customer pipeline — and made Velo3D the first metal additive manufacturer to earn a green-level STIG designation.
From checkbox compliance to a clean full-scope audit
Inherited a security program with minimal formal controls, rebuilt it into a real function, and delivered ISO 27001:2022 transition and re-certification with zero non-conformities.

From coin-flip uptime to three nines
Rebuilt hybrid infrastructure that couldn't support the business — taking uptime from 50% to over 99.9% and cutting new-hire onboarding from seven days to 48 hours.
$100M+ in real estate, $10M of build-outs, under budget
Took ownership of all real estate and facilities on the strength of an operational track record — closing over $100M in transactions and delivering $10M of lab-equipped build-outs in under two years, both projects under budget.
One source of truth for a company that couldn't find its data
Built the enterprise data warehouse and BI platform for a global AI SaaS startup whose teams were drowning in disparate, un-correlatable data — returning 20+ hours a week to the business.

Supporting 120 to 550 people without linear headcount growth
Rebuilt the IT support model during hypergrowth — improving the technician-to-employee ratio from 1:40 to 1:125 and cutting support cost 44% while the company more than quadrupled.

Let's talk.
I'm always interested in talking with companies hiring for CIO and senior technology leadership roles, and with anyone building and scaling a technology organization. If something here is relevant to what you're working on, I'd be glad to hear from you.
